Special Recognition Awards in PD and Nephrology Nursing Barbara Prowant Lifetime Achievement Award in Nephrology Nursing

This award recognizes a nephrology nurse who has made significant contribution in Peritoneal Dialysis Nursing.  In 2011, this was renamed as The Barbara Prowant Lifetime Achievement Award in Nephrology Nursing named in honor of Barbara Prowant, MSN, RN, who was a pioneer in PD Nursing and was one of the original organizers of the Annual Dialysis Conference. Barbara’s contributions to the field of nephrology, especially to peritoneal dialysis, made her one of the most well-known and highly respected nephrology nurses in the world. In her nearly 30 years as a nephrology nurse, she had an enormous impact on patient care, education, and the advancement of knowledge through clinical research. Barbara’s publications, presentations and editing efforts were a credit to her and to the Nephrology Division of the University of Missouri. The award acknowledges the contributions of a nephrology nurse whose work has contributed to the advancement of nephrology nursing practice.
